With nothing left to lose, former The Bachelor contestant Demi Burnett claims that no one comes on the show for the “right reasons.”

The Bachelor season 23 is behind her and now Demi Burnett isn’t holding back. With Bachelor in Paradise (potentially) on the horizon, she’s letting the comments fly and revealing some show secrets along the way. In a recent interview with Vulture, Demi talked about everything from her mom back home to her feud with Courtney (who apparently apologized!) to how she thinks Cassie and Colton are actually a good match. It makes for a truly fascinating read, but the most important takeaway is Demi’s commentary on the secret motivations of The Bachelor’s many contestants.

For as long as the ABC series has been around, fans have speculated that competitors are rarely on the show with the actual intent of finding a life partner. Heck, the term “here for the right reasons” was born out of our frequent skepticisms. According to Demi Burnett, we’re spot on with our analysis.

"Everybody acts like they’re there for the right reasons, but nobody is there for the right reasons. It’s bullshit."

So if not true love, what does Demi think is the real motivation for competitors to come on The Bachelor? Easy.

"Opportunity. You never know what could come from it. Everyone is always scared to admit that, but that’s why everyone goes on. If you honestly want to date someone and all you want is a relationship, you can go on a dating app. You don’t need to go on national television."

. . . She’s definitely not wrong. It takes a very specific kind of person to be willing to put their entire dating life up front on national TV. Whether this applies to all contestants who appear on the show or not, we can’t really say. Surely there must be some who are there with pure intentions. After all, we have seen the occasional wedding to come out of The Bachelor and some of its spin-off shows.

Demi also revealed that she personally was never really on board with her season. She wasn’t even really into the Bach himself!

"I wasn’t thrilled about it being Coco. I wasn’t sure if he would be ready, because he’d just gotten out of a relationship with Tia and then Becca. It seemed a little messy. I was really surprised by how much I started liking him towards the end of it. But now we’re definitely homies. That’s all we were meant to be."

This admission doesn’t exactly come out of nowhere. Demi made some bold moves on her season of The Bachelor, but she never exactly seemed head over heels. At best, she came off as a competitor who really knew how to play the game.

So is Demi right about the series experience? Or do you think her perspective is limited? Let us know what you think in the comments!
