OPINION: Why The Bachelor Colton Underwood seems stuck on Cassie
The Bachelor took an unexpected turn last night when Colton abandoned convention and pursued Cassie. Here’s our best guess as to why he’s acting out.
As soon as you mention Cassie Randolph’s name, fans from across Bachelor Nation are sure to have an opinion. Some love her, thinking that she and the Bachelor Colton Underwood are meant to reconnect a la The Notebook. Others are convinced she’s consciously playing him to get attention or even to volley to become the next Bachelorette.
But whatever her reasoning, what’s maybe even more interesting is that Colton continues to fall hard for her play.
(Recent) spoiler alert! During The Bachelor’s live finale last night, Colton said goodbye to contestants Tayshia and Hannah G. His departure from Hannah G. was particularly emotional and confusing. He admitted out loud to her that he spent the whole season thinking that she would be his final pick, he still felt she reminded him of home and he even had the audacity to express that he might be making a mistake by walking away.
With so much doubt in his mind, what’s driving Colton to keep saying these awful goodbyes? He says love. Another theory? Cassie has played the Aloof Card and she’s played it very well.
We all know these kinds of girls or guys in real life, right? They’re the kind that keep our attention by playing hard to get. Feelings are amplified after they express that they don’t want us. It’s embarrassing, sure, but rational people fall for this hook, line and sinker every time.
Whether Cassie is consciously playing it cool on The Bachelor or not doesn’t really matter as the effects are the same: the theory goes that Colton had deep feelings for her and they were only intensified when she revealed that he couldn’t actually have her. Suddenly, it seems like she’s his only option when, in reality, she’s the only option that wasn’t feeling up to sticking around.
So is the Bachelor smart to keep running after the girl who left? Is it really true love that compels him to stick to the journey or is it a deep curiosity for what could have been?
