The Bachelor episode 8 reaction: Plenty of Hometown love
The Bachelor Hometowns are upon us, so get ready for lots of awkward conversations and forced happiness! At least from everyone’s dads.
We’ve come to the most important part of The Bachelor journey; the moment when we decide who is worthy of unsupervised intimate alone time in the Fantasy Suite next episode! And to do that we obviously must meet everyone’s family and friends in a rented home that we pretend is where they actually live.
First up we visit Fredericksburg, Virginia where Caelynn is eagerly awaiting to whisk Colton off on a carriage ride tour of some of her favorite childhood locations like the doctor’s office where she would hide out to avoid getting her blood drawn. How romantic! Then they stop at an ice cream shop where they lick each other’s faces and giggle on the curb over the fact that they both somehow want the unachievable dream of having kids and a dog.
Caelynn has gathered up her entire extended family to be on The Bachelor, I mean, meet Colton at a lowkey backyard picnic. She and her stepdad share a very emotional moment after he states that her romantic relationship is really a friendship, but then he still gives his blessing to Colton regarding their future proposal. The evening ends with Caelynn admitting that she is in fact in love with Colton. Thank goodness these two have moved out of the friendzone!
Next up we visit Hannah G in Birmingham, Alabama, who greets Colton by telling him he needs to work on his manners and become a perfect Southern gentleman in the 2 hours before meeting her parents. Off to etiquette class we go! Colton survives, but is distraught at how slowly he must consume bread should his future be in the South.
That evening Hannah’s cousins welcome Colton with open arms, her dad seems skeptical, and her mom looks like she wants to fight Colton right there in the living room. She later reveals that this vicious face is due to her baby being a mama’s girl, but Hannah convinces her that she is ready to fly the coop during their tear-filled couch time. The Bachelor once again asks a dad for their blessing and we are two for two on engagement approval! They end the night with no originality meaning, yes, Hannah said she’s in love with our Bachelor. Next!
It’s time for Tayshia back in California. With what can only be called payback, Tayshia arranges for the pair to face their fear of heights once again by going sky-diving. Colton is flat-out terrified to say the least and Tayshia appears to greatly regret her petty choice. They survive and it’s on to dinner and convincing her parents that she’s ready for another marriage.
Tayshia and her mom have a heart to heart where we hear once again that her dad is going to be the challenge when it comes to convincing that their true love is real. Oh, it’s going to be tricky to persuade a man who already did this once when years of commitment existed before the knot was tied? You don’t say!
To no one’s shock, Tayshia’s dad is a hard sell on whether she is ready for love and a take two down the aisle. But of course Colton’s way with words works again and it’s third times the charm for “Can I marry this girl I’ve known for a month?” requests. It’s the end of the night and you know the drill: Tayshia is in love with the Bachelor.
Date number four takes us to Huntington Beach where we meet Cassie for a surf lesson. Colton isn’t very good at riding the waves and Cassie still won’t say the L-word so we head into dinner with a bit less confidence than we’ve seen with the first three dates.
I have to admit that Cassie’s dad is my favorite dad of the episode. He is full of questions and concerns and for almost the whole sequence I was so excited for him to turn Colton down when the time came for the Bach to pop the question. Dad did not disappoint and basically told Colton we would have to wait and see. Finally a bit of reality on this reality show!
Cassie escorts Colton off property without whispering the magic words of “I love you” and instead insists that she doesn’t want their journey to end. I am way too pumped for what I am positive is Cassie’s exit from the show.
Rose ceremony time and we watch our buddy, Chris Harrison, lead our Final Four into a barn full of hanging Edison light bulbs, which is exactly what this barn was built for. The Bachelor arrives with sweaty palms and gives roses to Hannah and Tayshia, which leaves his BFF Caelynn and I Don’t Love You Yet Cassie. The dramatic music swells, the two girls share an encouraging hand squeeze.
Colton makes the dumbest move possible and picks Cassie to continue this stupid love adventure. My outburst of “NOOOO!” was almost as loud as my boyfriend’s exclamation of “YESSS!”
Colton walks a heartbroken Caelynn to the waiting car and she cries feeling blindsided and hurt. During her drive away, she ponders if there is anyone out there to love her and her pitch to become the next Bachelorette is sealed with a mascara smeared tear.
Colton returns to his three Fantasy Suite picks then immediately exits once more to resume his role as most confused person on the planet. Just jump the fence already, please!
Fingers crossed we all get what we want on next week’s episode.
