Last night’s episode of The Bachelor was perhaps the most touching in the show’s history. Contestant Caelynn Miller-Keyes shared her powerful story.

Ever since season 23 got its first promo videos, The Bachelor host Chris Harrison has been promising a particularly moving conversation between Colton and contestant Caelynn. To be fair, Chris promises every season that this will be “the most dramatic season ever,” so the words didn’t come as too much of a surprise.

You can imagine how much the world was taken off guard, then, when Caelynn used last night’s one-on-one date to tell in full the moving story of her being drugged and raped in college. She spared no detail in describing the horrors of that night and the emotional fallout that came as a result: only one of her attackers was caught.

As if her ordeal hadn’t been awful enough at that, Caelynn went on to reveal that the attacker who was caught was merely expelled. Furthermore, when she tried to pursue justice, she was denied a rape kit at a hospital.

Perhaps what was even more surprising than Caelynn’s story was Colton’s response to it. He handled the news like a pro, offering words of support and love unconditionally. Furthermore, he went on to describe his own past experience dating another victim of sexual assault.

Who was the woman that Colton referred to? It doesn’t take much digging to know that he was talking about Aly Raisman, the Olympic gymnast who Colton has called his “first love.” Raisman made headlines after she came out to the public about her experience being abused by gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar.

There’s no going back from this story, Bachelor Nation. We’re changed. This series gets a lot of flack, but last night proved that The Bachelor is still here to tell real stories. It can—and should—change the world that we live in. Women can empower women.

In case you missed it, Caelynn took to Twitter after the episode to document her thoughts.

RAINN, the sexual assault hotline that got a special PSA during last night’s episode, also got their post.

Finally, the Bachelor himself took to Twitter to stress one more time how vital this story really was:

Thanks to The Bachelor. Sure, we watch for the drama, the cocktail dresses and the leeches (both literal and figurative). But this was also a pretty incredible reason to tune in.
