Bachelorette winner Garrett Yrigoyen opened up about his health in an emotional Instagram post. Here’s everything you need to know.

One of the best things about The Bachelorette (or any Bachelor series, for that matter) is that it gives contestants an opportunity to talk about issues that are important to them. Not only are there multiple in-depth conversations throughout a season but there are also contestant intro videos that highlight the things most important to them. Take, for instance, Cassie from Colton’s season of The Bachelor, who used her time to talk about her work as a speech pathologist. Now, Bachelorette winner Garrett Yrigoyen is using his newfound fame to open up about something important to him.

Garrett, who is engaged to Becca Kufrin, has not been a very outspoken public figure. He has stayed out of the limelight, instead seeming to simply enjoy any time he gets to spend with his fiancée. Now, though, he’s using Instagram to talk about what he believes makes him a special person: he survived being born with a penny-sized hole in his heart.

Garrett writes that the announcement comes as a result of recently being asked what “makes him remarkable.” He comments that while many may view his success on The Bachelorette as a remarkable feat, his true accomplishment was in overcoming that physical challenge and nurturing relationships with the people who stood by his side.

His post was perfection! Sometimes it’s easy to forget that the contestants who appear on The Bachelor or Bachelorette are real people with real trials. Garrett’s comments were so down to earth and remind us that he is more than just a handsome face: he has lived his life and come out on top.

Hopefully his inspiring post helps others to discover what makes them remarkable. If a Bachelorette winner and can use their platform to help spread awareness of a problem or to embolden the masses, more power to them.
