Cassie’s sign language with Colton was cute, but was it correct? Not according to deaf activist and Dancing with the Stars celeb Nyle DiMarco.

Personally, I was pulling for Cassie on night one of The Bachelor.

She was so easy to like! This California native made an impression early on when her intro video was featured during the episode. She came off as sweet, down to earth and very genuine. Possibly the best thing about her though? She’s a speech pathologist! When Cassie’s video featured her working with kids, hearts melted the world over.

It seemed clear early on that she was going to be a front runner in the race for Colton’s heart. So when she taught him some sign language during the premiere, we felt even more strongly about her status.

The only problem? According to model and deaf activist Nyle DiMarco, Cassie’s sign language was all wrong.

He took to Twitter to point out that Cassie’s signs for “you’re cute,” “rose” and “kiss” were basically all wrong. What’s more, he took the opportunity to actually correct her! Turns out that her sign for “rose” was actually the sign for “restaurant.” Nyle was super nice about the mistake, using the opportunity to stay sweet to the Bachelor contestant while still educating the masses. He handled it with class, likely feeling very aware that this was an opportunity to once again bring sign language a little PR.

I still like Cassie but, come on, you’re giggling a little, too, right?

I’m actually surprised there hasn’t been more news out about this blunder yet. The Bachelor is constantly making headlines for its controversies and mistakes, but somehow this one has managed to slip under the radar a little bit. Maybe Cassie was just so likable that it didn’t ruin her as it would another contestant?

It’s a fascinating situation, to be sure. Did any of you catch Cassie’s mistake during the live premiere? Were you outraged, did you have a laugh or did you just not care? Let us know in the comments.
