The Bachelor opening night episode saw both drama and romance. Here are all the highlights you’ll want to remember until next week!
Sloths? Hot tubs? Proposals?! Here’s everything that went down on The Bachelor’s opening night.
This season started with viewing parties around the world featuring Bachelor alumni. Let me tell you, this show knows how to build some hype. Jason and Blake hosted a party! Chris Harrison’s mom showed up! It was beautiful chaos.
Then, we cut to the clips of some of our new contestants. Traditionally, these videos have been a hint as to who we might want to keep an eye on this season. This seems to be the season of Cali, featuring a whopping four girls that currently call the state home. The highlight reel includes big reveals that Demi’s mother is in prison and that Heather has never been kissed.
Cut over to Colton’s intro at the mansion. The folks at The Bachelor sure know how to give us what we want because he’s already shirtless and showering.
Side note: how does Colton have such great teeth? What is he gargling with? Bleach?
After that, we do the traditional check in with successful Bachelor families. It was great to see all the sweet little babies and Jade definitely broke us when she cried over her own beautiful “journey.”
Meanwhile, Chris is hanging out with more Bachelor alumni at the viewing party. For some reason Krystal and Chris are hanging out in a hot tub? Only on The Bachelor, guys. The BiP couple addresses the rumors that have been buzzing about a possible pregnancy; turns out they’re just getting another puppy. What a let down!
After that, things get crazy when the cameras catch a surprise proposal. Keep a tally going, though, guys. This ain’t the last one we’ll see tonight.
Finally, the ladies start arriving at the mansion. While the first limo is full of relatively simple intros, things quickly pick up from there. For starters, there are So. Many. Virginity jokes. So many! You’d think ladies would clue in to the fact that everyone else has already thought of these jokes.
There are also some real highlights though. Erin shows up as Cinderella. Alex D. dresses as a sloth. Catherine gives Colton her actual dog. Bri whips out that now infamous fake Australian accent.
The drama is picking up, even just at the premiere parties. There’s another random couple proposal! Seriously! Is something in the water out there?
Back at the cocktail party, Demi makes waves by taking Colton first. However, she’s not the true villain of the night; Catherine solidifies that status for herself after stealing Colton four times. She and Onyeka have the first truly unsettling confrontation of the season. Oh boy, if this is a sign of drama to come. . .
In the end, it’s Hannah G. who nags the first impression rose. It makes sense. The two have a clear instant connection and share a kiss that’s pretty darn steamy for a virgin.
After a touching tribute to our main man Chris Harrison, the night begins to wrap up. A nervous Colton hands out his first roses. All the obvious suspects are in the clear. Perhaps the biggest surprise is that Erin, whose Cinderella entrance made such a splash, is sent packing.
Alright, so it might not be “the most dramatic season yet.” But hey, it’s a start! Colton seems very genuine and definitely here for the right reasons. We can’t wait to see more! BRING ON THE BACHELOR!
