SPOILER ALERT: After she was spotted with another man, a source close to contestant Demi Burnett says the situation was innocent.

It was only yesterday that reports were breaking of The Bachelor season 23’s contestant Demi Burnett being spotted with Big Brother star Paul Calafiore. When they were caught on a drive through New York City, fans everywhere were wondering, has Demi given away part of Colton’s season? Did she break the famous Bachelor post-season agreement not to publicly enter a new relationship?

Well, Bachelor Nation, it would seem you can breathe a sigh of relief. . . for now. Spoilers have been averted after a “source close to the situation” told Us Weekly that the liaison wasn’t a romantic one. Rather, Demi had come to the Big Brother and Challenge star seeking advice on how to handle the world’s perception of her after her season begins to air.

I’ll admit, this story does make sense. There have been rumors buzzing for a while now that Demi’s story will pigeonhole her into villain status after she gets physical with Colton on night one. One could see why she’d be worried about how the world would perceive her after that.

However, was Paul Calafiore really the best choice as a mentor? Fans of his shows near universally hate him right now after he, like Demi, took on the villain mantle. While he would undoubtedly be able to provide insight on what it feels like to be hated, he’s probably not the best advice-giver if Demi wants to do some image repair.

The situation certainly makes us question her judgement. Negative headlines before a Bachelor season even airs never exactly bode well for a new contestant.

Will Demi Burnett live up to her already villainous reputation? Or is it undeserved and we’ll all ultimately feel bad for paying heed to the rumors? The season will premiere in just a few days and it’s then that we’ll finally get some much-needed answers. Mark your calendars for Jan. 7!
