In a new interview, the man behind The Bachelor’s security gives some interesting insights. What are the biggest takeaways?

Even if you’ve seen every season of The Bachelor, The Bachelorette or any of the endlessly entertaining spin-offs, it’s always fascinating to learn new behind the scenes details. Long-time Bachelor employee Paul “Big Paulie” Danner recently gave an interesting interview with Entertainment Weekly in which he gave us a new perspective on what it means to keep things cool in the mansion.

Big Paulie has worked as “security” for the show since the beginning. He fills roles where they are needed and has apparently been privy to some of the sauciest moments that ever went down in Bachelor history.

In his interview, he gave an account of kicking down a bathroom door on Rozlyn Papa, the contestant who famously wouldn’t leave set after being accused of having an inappropriate relationship with someone from the show. He also talked about the trials of handling Chad Johnson, the Bachelorette alum who harassed host Chris Harrison outright.

Altogether, Big Paulie’s account was fascinating and it really couldn’t have come out at a more pertinent time. Just yesterday, Accept This Rose covered Chris Harrison’s defense of the show’s new vetting process, which is being employed in the hopes of providing better safety for contestants on The Bachelor.

It’s nice hearing that the “muscle” depicted on the series isn’t just for show. Big Paulie may have started out as an actor, but the producers really use him to help keep things in order.

Hopefully the show will continue to take safety seriously and take new measures as needed to keep the peace. In the meantime, Big Paulie has all our respect for tackling some of the controversies that he has. Not many people could face off with Chad “I Think I’ll Just Eat All the Deli Meat” Johnson and live to tell the tale.
