The Bachelor host Chris Harrison recently commented on the show’s prior controversies. How will this affect the contestant vetting process?
Colton Underwood may be the Bachelor, but host Chris Harrison will always have our hearts. The long-time face of Bachelor Nation was recently interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter and he gave a thoughtful, measured response to the show’s recent controversies. Harrison was on the defensive and his comments to help out his show were right on the money. Smooth as always!
While Harrison tackled everything from the death of Colton’s virginity plot line to the show’s former lack of diversity, easily the most important takeaway from his interview was his commentary on the show’s vetting process. In recent seasons, The Bachelor has been under fire for letting shady characters slip through the cracks. Contestant Lincoln Adim was famously the subject of a sexual assault investigation and several former contestants have gotten in trouble for questionable tweets. While the details are still a little hazy, we can certainly never forget the incident that occurred between Corinne Olympios and DeMario Jackson.
In response to these errors, Harrison insists that the show is moving forward and becoming more selective. Each incident will be handled individually with the idea of the usually vocal, negative Twitter crowds in mind. We can expect to see less drama—outside of our televisions, at least.
Our thoughts? Good for The Bachelor! Way to keep up with the times while still differentiating between truly grave errors and minor mistakes that contestants have learned from. It’s good to see our favorite reality show growing and changing, without sacrificing the core of what we love.
Hopefully these changes will result in better safety for future contestants and less ammunition for The Bachelor’s critics. As the show has already started to change how they vet competitors, it’s safe to assume that we’ll be able to see some changes pretty quickly. It’s all for the best!
