New Bachelor Colton Underwood claims that he’s more fully himself in this new season. Can we believe him?

It’s a new year and a new Colton Underwood. In a recent interview with People, the Bachelor leading man revealed that he spent his season cashing in on being real. He describes being friends with his exes, learning how to be “undeniably himself” and leaving behind the TV persona.

While the interview didn’t provide any Earth shattering information, it should still be a welcome read for long-time fans of the ABC series. Colton has been a controversial pick as Bachelor, with many fans calling him “disingenuous.” In his People interview, Colton addresses this accusation directly, promising that he is very aware of the need to be real with the ladies vying for his love.

This should come as a massive relief for all those critical fans out there. If you were on the fence about his casting, hopefully this interview serves as a sort of olive branch and invites you back to watch another riveting season.

Colton is essentially promising here that not only is his story unique and interesting, rather, he’s also someone worth rooting for. He wants to be the good guy, not the villain. It seems like he’s aware that he may need a little re-branding and is actively working on bettering himself.

That sounds so refreshing! It feels like Bachelor fans have had to endure several seasons now with morally reprehensible suitors. Obvious bad guys come to mind immediately (cough cough, Juan Pablo) and so do some of the Bachelors who simply broke our heart. Take Arie Luyendyk, for instance. We’re all rooting for his happiness with new fiancee and baby mama Lauren Burnham, but it’s hard to forget how he left fan favorite Becca Kufrin high and dry after giving her the final rose.

Be better than them, Colton! Here’s to hoping that season 23 will bring a very genuine Bachelor who has learned from past mistakes and grown from them. We want you to find your fairy tale!
