4. He comes from a blended family
As was previously mentioned, despite having been born in Indiana and subsequently raised in Illinois, Colton took Becca Kufrin on his hometown date to Aurora, Colorado. The reason? Colton’s parents are now divorced and both happen to live there.
Colton seems to love his blended family. It’s a big one! According to his ABC bio, the new Bachelor has two stepparents and a whopping seven siblings. He claims to be very close with them and it would seem that his decision to visit both parents on his hometown date would reflect those feelings.
For those who have been on the fence about Colton’s maturity, this fun fact should offer at least a little bit of peace. The man knows how to make a relationship work and has a great example at home of how to get along with someone even when the going gets tough. This bodes well for his ability to compromise with a future partner or show respect to a contestant who might hold different beliefs from him.
Colton’s history with a blended family also opens the door for him to relate to other children of divorce. It seems like every season at least one contestant spends their dinner with the Bachelor or Bachelorette opening up their heart about their parents or childhood. Colton can show some empathy to these ladies and maybe even make a connection with another kid from a loving, blended family. This also opens the door to his being more open to a partner who comes to him with their own child from a previous relationship.
