Long time director of The Bachelor Ken Fuchs has described his best advice for future show contestants. Is he right or wrong?

It’s almost Bachelor premiere time and we are consuming every tiny bit of series news that we possibly can! Thankfully, the show’s director, Ken Fuchs, has us covered with some fun little behind-the-scenes details. In a recent interview with Glamour, he talked briefly about what it’s like to be on set and which dramatic moments are organic versus edited.

The best bit of info he dropped though? Fuchs described his favorite piece of advice for hopeful contestants, suggesting “You have to really, really bring your true self, because that’s the only way you’re going to stick around. If you become friends with the rest of the house, then your focus really isn’t where it should be.”

He’s definitely not wrong! While “fake” or driven personalities often get ahead early on (recent villains like Krystal from Arie’s season come to mind), they crash and burn when their play is exposed.

Is this the best advice to give future contestants? We definitely think so. It’s worth noting that Fuchs would certainly be an authority on the subject, having directed at least 350 episodes of the show. He went on to describe the need to find “balance” between making friends and being there for a Bachelor or Bachelorette and that seems to be the wisest takeaway from his comments.

How many times have we seen great contestants crash and burn after getting caught up in a villain’s games? There’s also the opposite terrible scenario, when someone desperately doesn’t fit in with the rest of the house after isolating themselves. Finding balance seems like a smart strategy to win, as well as a good way to maintain your sanity.

It’s just too bad for this year’s competitors that Fuchs’ advice is coming just before this season premiere. Will any ladies intuitively follow his advice? Can we use his commentary as a way to predict a future season winner?
