18. Sometimes, Couples Just Want Time Alone, Away From Cameras
Just the words, “fantasy suite” has come to be synonymous with “sex,” but that’s not always the case. Lots of times its just an opportunity for the couples to have some moments in which they don’t have to perform for the cameras. They have long-over due conversations about real life issues, personal values, and future plans.
Ben Higgins says as much about this time in the Fantasy Suite with Lauren. He addresses all the preconceived ideas about that night. He says, “I think there’s a stigma behind the fantasy suite date that’s sometimes correct, sometimes isn’t, but really that is an important date. It should be a week during The Bachelor that fans look at and say, there’s gonna be a lot that happens that can sway a decision.”
“It’s the first time that you can put your guard down in terms of just turning things off,’ Ben continues. “Lauren and I sat in silence for the first time on our fantasy suite date. Having just even that night with her allowed me to see, like, I would just love to spend every night with her.”
However, don’t be deceived by leads who refuse the Fantasy Suite. It’s mostly to preserve the reputation of the cast. Sean Lowe remembers his time with Emily Maynard. She famously declined to invite him because of her mother status. But Sean declares, “after the cameras stopped rolling she invited [me] back in. [We] didn’t sleep together, but [we] did stay up all night talking in the camera-free zone.”
