19. If A Contestant Leaves Outside Of A Rose Ceremony, It Takes A Brutally Long Time
The pace of the show can be very deceiving. Some scenes seem like they only take a few minutes while others drag on endlessly. We already know how long the rose ceremony takes, but it turns that’s the quickest way to send someone packing.
Almost every single moment is engineered during filming, so when a bachelor or bachelorette goes rogue and wants to send someone home outside of the ceremony night, it can take a really long time.
Those tearful, spontaneous goodbyes can turn into a long, drawn out process. Sean Lowe recounts, “first the contestant has to tell the Bachelor/ette, then they have to be filmed leaving, then the reaction to the contestant leaving is filmed, etc. It can turn an already tearful goodbye into a two-hour long ordeal.”
Even when the choice to go home is that of the departing contestant, there are still a lot of details that need sorting. This means the teary contestants have to linger around for far longer than is comfortable.
We don’t get to see the hours and hours of rearranging, although watching the contestants say goodbye to each other could be really good television. We know they get really close to each other, so it could prove very interesting to watch those moments unfold. All the inevitable smack talking and shade throwing would be so juicy, too.
