22. There Is An Endless Supply Of Alcohol In The Mansion
The quickest way to get some juicy TV moments is provide endless amounts of alcohol. It’s kind of like the very first commandment of reality television. The drunker the stars, the more insane they’re going to act. For a series that’s been on for as long as the Bachelor has, they have to keep us tuned in. The best way to keep audiences interested is to consistently deliver outrageous and ridiculous characters. The best way to make folks act ridiculous is get them drunk.
Leslie Hughes appeared on Sean Lowe’s season, and she remembers how ready the producers were with the booze. “It’s how they get you to be more talkative, more sensitive,” Hughes said of all the alcohol. “When I came in for the producers’ weekend, I remember it was like 12 noon, and they were like, ‘You want some champagne, wine?’ And I was like, ‘It’s 12 p.m., noon!’ And they’re like, ‘Welcome to the Bachelor family.’”
It would a long, grueling two months if you couldn’t drink to pass the time. If you are a sober contestant, you would have to come equipped with endless patience and all the zen you could muster because everybody around you would be constantly drunk, and we all know how little fun it is to be the only sober person at a party full of drunk people.
