24. Contestants Form Strong Bonds Of Friendships With Each Other
It’s no surprise that the residents of the mansion would form close relationships. They are pretty much all they have for the duration of their stay. They don’t have cell phones or TV, so they’re forced to talk to each other. Of course this will lead to friendships.
Lauren Bushnell, Ben Higgins erstwhile fiance, remembers the long stretches between dates. Aside from “eating everything” she could get her hands on they had to find other ways to pass the time. She theorizes, “I think a lot of the women get so close because there’s really not a whole lot else to do other than hang out, talk, and play games. It forces you to unplug, if you will.”
They live in such close quarters and spend so much time together, it’s inevitable that they’ll come to care about each other. Jackie Parr remembers the friendship she built with Sean Lowe’s wife, “Catherine [Lowe] and I used to bust out raps in the limo on the way to group dates.”
This seems bizarre when you examine the larger context of how they’re getting to know each other. They are all dating each others’ boyfriend, so you can see why some of the feuds between the women get so nasty. You can also see why the female friendships between the housemates often last a lot longer then the romantic relationship.
