34. Couples Only Spend About 72 Hours Together
You wouldn’t know it by the way the contestants snivel, sob, and carry on to the camera, but they don’t get a whole lot of time together. In fact, according to Bachelor pro Ali Fedotowsky, by the time the couple gets engaged, they’ve only spent a sum total of 3 whole days together. That’s not consecutively, either folks.
Ali admits, “When you get engaged, you probably spent a total of 72 hours with that person.” And things don’t really get any easier once the cameras go away. She confesses, “We went back into the real world, and we realized we weren’t right for each other.”
Most of the contestants get caught up in the romance of it all. They’re cooped up in a beautiful mansion, completely cut off from the world, with nothing but booze and thoughts of your future boyfriend to keep you busy. I can see how feelings could develop pretty fast.
Without anyone to offer any perspective, or any real world experiences to provide balance, those dates start to mean a lot more than they would in a real world situation. This, among a lot of other factors, heavily contributes to break up rate among couples who meet on the show.
Now that Ali has some distance from the whole “journey” she freely admits that it’s mostly lust that drives the feelings and not true love.
