37. A Family Lives In The Mansion When They’re Not Filming
Regardless of how it might appear, that mansion is NOT a Hollywood set. It is actually owned and lived in by a California family. The owners, including their small children move out of the house for the months of filming.
The home, which is located in Agoura Hills, California, has been the home to The Bachelor series and it’s spin off, Bachelor Pad since season 11. The expansive mansion is home to Marshall Haraden, and was first acquainted with the franchise when a scout stumbled upon it looking for locations for the film, Joe Dirt. At the time, it was just a graded lot of dirt. The scout gave Harden some specifications, and two years later called him up to use it in the show.
The process to make the house Bachelor ready is really quite a hassle. “They’re here 42 days, twice a year,” says Haraden, who is president of a construction company. “Everything leaves — everything that’s not tied down, that’s not part of the home. Curtains, TVs, pots and pans, clothes — everything in one day goes out. And then they take two weeks to put it together the way they want it, and they shoot for X amount of days, and then they spend two weeks to put it back.”
This seems like a lot to go through just to have a famous house, and they must spend a fortune in disinfectant. Erica Rose, who competed in both The Bachelor and Bachelor pad worries, “I hope they sanitize that place after the season ends, because there is a lot of hooking up that goes on — especially on Bachelor Pad.”.
