41. Contestants Are Subjected To A Ton Of Different Kinds Of Tests
Whether or not producers are trying to get the craziest contestants or to weed out the crazies, there is a battery of tests they must go through.
For one, they must sit through a comprehensive psychological tests. Although it’s hard to imagine some of the men and women getting through these without raising any red flags, it’s a requisite part of the vetting process. I’ve seen some contestants melt completely down during a rose ceremony or group date, and I have to wonder how they made it through the initial audition process.
“They lock you in a hotel room for three days and give you a psychological evaluation,” says The Bachelorette season 4 winner Jesse Csincsakincsak. I assume this is to make sure they aren’t introducing any sort of danger into the mansion, however, it’s more likely they are concocting a drama cocktail of personality disorders.
In addition to the psychological tests, they also have to pass STD tests. Leslie Hughes, of Sean Lowe’s season, thinks the producers do this to “make sure everyone is clean.” This is purely precautionary, but it sure would make an awkward conversation between a producer and hopeful contestant.
Once contestants are vetted in this way, they must past a camera test to make sure they telegraph properly onscreen. This process picks up weird ticks, mannerisms, and probably reveals physical flaws that would show up on the show.
