Nick Viall gave The Bachelor 21 contestant Corinne Olympios a group date rose to read the other women’s reactions.

Corinne Olympios has established herself as the villain early during the 21st season of The Bachelor. She has dominated Nick Viall’s time in cocktail settings, interrupting numerous women and then throwing a tantrum when the favor is returned. She has also used her sexuality early on in an effort to woo Nick, a move the other contestants detest.

She earned a group rose from Nick after the wedding photoshoot date, where she took her top off and forced Nick’s hands on her breasts in front of the other contestants.

But there was a reason Corinne got the rose, beyond the obvious, according to Nick.

“When you are ‘the Bachelor,’ you have very limited resources and time to get to know these women and I think you try to use everything at your disposal,” Viall told ABC News. “As far as moving relationships forward, I think the most important thing is that those relationships are moving forward and [the women] get a rose to continue to allow them to move those relationships forward. So whether it’s a group date rose, a one-on-one rose or just a rose at the rose ceremony, I think doesn’t make too much of a difference. And so, as a result, I think you can give out a group date rose to accomplish a few things: you can validate someone… [but] you can also [use it to] see how other people might react.”

Nick added: “Seeing how people react to a situation, you can tell a lot. You’re trying to learn about these women and the possibility of how they might be in a relationship outside of that [reality show] world.”

A valid point but is this what he genuinely thought in the moment when he elected to give Corinne the rose, or was her forward advances really the motivation. Hindsight and time have given Nick a while to come up with a better explanation.

That being said, Corinne has made getting to know Nick a priority and that alone is enough reason to give her a rose. She is making the effort, and in the second episode that deserves to be rewarded. In the future, as Nick gets to know the rest of the women better, it might not be enough to keep her around.

He certainly will get to see how the women react in Episode 3, which centers around the women learning of his past with Liz, whom he sent home in Episode 2.
