Now the suspense is over, and we know who Nick chooses to be his future bride – but will the couple actually make it last?

Nick and Vanessa sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g. Nick has spoken, and choosen the seeming fan-favorite, and Canadian, Vanessa Grimaldi. The two finally got to be seen together, and publicly announced their relationship during The Bachelor finale.

During the last episode Vanessa seemed unsure whether she was ready to be engaged, but when Nick eventually got down on one knee, she (of course) said yes. But what makes their relationship different than every other Bachelor relationship? Do they really have the potential to last amidst a terrible track record for Bachelor couples?

Since the reveal that the two are engaged, they’ve been very open about their time together, and haven’t sugarcoated anything. They’re realistic, and they know they still really need to get to know each other before setting a wedding date.

Vanessa is part of a tight-knit family, and although she made it seem like moving to L.A. wasn’t a big deal, it is. With her Italian family roots in Montreal, it’s going to be a big change for her to move to a different country. Geographically speaking L.A. and Montreal are far apart, so a quick family visit isn’t all that easy either.

With two strong personalities, it’s only a matter of time before they butt heads big time. Although they have admitted to disagreements, there are certainly bigger ones to come in the future. Once the reality hits that she has left her family, it may become a struggle to be happy.

With very traditional values, Vanessa only wants to be engaged once, and this may push her to really make things work. Nick has been close to engagement, but also hasn’t been engaged. The two get to share this experience for the first time together, while enjoying their new relationship. Hopefully the chemistry they have, paired with a genuine desire for it to work out, will be enough for them to make it last.
